Artistry of Breast lift
A youthful and natural appearance

The mastopexy, or breast-lift, is a plastic surgery procedure used to rejuvenate the appearance of breasts that have sagged or deflated. Extra skin, nipple and breast tissue are all addressed in the procedure to produce a natural and youthful breast shape. Breast implants can also be used depending on the patient’s desires. A mastopexy can be performed to restore breasts that have lost shape and volume, become flat and long, or lift the position of nipples that have fallen below the breast crease. Many patients wish to create a perkier appearance by bringing the nipple higher, reducing the size of the areola and correcting asymmetry.

Who is the good candidate for this procedure?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, reduces the circumference of the areola, and raises and repositions the nipple and breast tissue to a desired location. This cosmetic procedure gives a woman’s breasts a youthful and natural appearance.

Sagging or deflated-looking breasts can occur after childbearing, weight loss, or because of aging and loss of skin elasticity. Younger women with larger breasts may also feel their breasts have a sagging appearance. Women with the above concerns may be excellent candidates for a breast lift surgery. In some cases, a breast augmentation or reduction can be combined with a lift to create very beautiful results. Patients should in good health and be able to undergo anesthesia.

Procedure techniques & scars

By using the most up to date principles in cosmetic breast surgery and having performed well over 1000 surgeries of this type, Dr. Mok has developed a breast lift technique that maximizes the aesthetic potential of a patient’s own tissues.  An internal surgical “push-up bra” is created, stacking and suturing breast tissues in a fashion that amplifies upper breast fullness and projection while at the same time narrowing and eliminating the wide and low appearance of some breasts.  Liposuction is often used during the surgery to help achieve this goal. If patients wish to have more volume, breast projection or upper breast fullness than can be provided from their existing breast tissue, implants can be considered to achieve this goal.

There are 3 main types of incisions for a breast lift procedure. Depending on individual factors, Dr. Mok will determine which incision will bring patients their desired results. Patients may see incision lines around the areola, vertically down the breast from the areola to the breast fold, and/or along the inframammary fold. Incisions can take up to 2 years to fade and can be hidden nicely along the natural creases of the body.

When are the results of breast lift surgery noticeable?

The results of breast lift surgery are noticeable immediately. However, it takes about three to five months for the final results to become actualized, as this is how long it takes for the body to heal completely and for any residual swelling to improve.

Breast lift surgery can be combined with many other procedures to enhance both the breast and body. When combined with a breast augmentation, a fuller and rounder breast shape can be created. Mommy Makeover surgeries that include breast lift, Tummy Tuck, abdominal liposuction and breast augmentations are also becoming very popular.

Mastopexy surgery can help women feel more confident in their body. Often they are used to retore patients with the breast shape they once had. Sagging breasts can be lifted to create a firmer feel and more youthful appearance. The nipple can also be raised to a higher position on the chest to create a perky, symmetrical look.

Patients can prepare for their breast lift by avoiding Aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs in the weeks leading up to their operation. Staying hydrated and eating a healthy diet can help reduce the risks of complication during surgery. Arranging time off work, possibly 1-2 weeks, after surgery may be advised. Giving yourself enough time to recover at home will help the healing process. Return to work will depend on the nature of your job.

Every patient’s recovery is unique, however most patients are back to their regular activities within six weeks. Post-surgical compression garments may be worn for up to six weeks to reduce swelling and assist with the healing process. Guidelines for proper suture care and showering will provided. Strenuous exercise should be avoided until fully healed or until instructed by Dr. Mok.

The results of your mastopexy can easily last a decade depending on how you care for your body after surgery, and the condition of your breasts when surgery was performed. Breast sagging is a part of the natural aging process, which decreases your body’s production of elastin and collagen. Breast lift surgery won’t stop this from occurring but may help prolong the effects and result in a more appealing aging process. Some patients are more prone to breast sagging for genetic reasons. A healthy diet and exercise can help prolong your results.

Immediately after surgery patients see a change in their breast shape and position. For the first few weeks swelling and healing will take place, which may influence the appearance of the breasts. Patients can expect to see a closer reflection of their final results after 1 month, while shape and position may be enhanced up to one year after surgery.

Beautiful Results

Mastopexy surgery brings many women the confidence and youthful appearance they once had. Reshaping sagging breasts helps restore feminine contours of the body. By removing excess skin and lifting the nipple position, a firmer looking breast is created. Many patients find their clothing fits better with their new breast shape after surgery. A breast lift can be used to balance the size and shape of the breast and create a harmonious look and feel.
